After almost a century, in 1904, another scientist, Roald Amundsen went to the same location identified by Ross only to find out that the magnetic pole moved 50 kilometers south. Polar magnet shifts 10 kilometers every year in the 20th century. This continues to happen every year--either northward or southward.

NASA also denied a possible abrupt change of the magnetic field position. 2012 Doomsday theorists suggest that this already happened in the past and will happen again in 2012. But NASA said this abrupt change of the Earth's magnetic field never happened in the past and never will. Authorities said that a complete polar flipping happens within a 1,000-year period.
